Microsoft Copilot: Your AI Assistant, Built Into the Apps You Already Use

Microsoft Copilot brings AI directly into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams — working on your business data, inside your existing security and permission model. It drafts, analyzes, summarizes, and creates, so your teams do their best work faster. Tech One Global helps Philippine organizations deploy it securely and adopt it fully.

The product

What Microsoft Copilot Actually Is — for Business Leaders

Not a chatbot bolted onto your tools. A multi-model AI layer built inside the apps your teams already use — and, with Cowork and agents, one that increasingly finishes the work instead of starting it.

Sales-Management-2.png

No new tool to learn

Copilot lives where work already happens — Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint — so adoption friction is lower from day one.

Your data stays yours

Copilot operates inside your Microsoft 365 tenant and respects your existing access controls. It does not train Microsoft's models on your data.

Work IQ is Copilot's intelligence layer — it builds a semantic understanding of your files, emails, meetings and relationships, so answers reflect how your business actually runs. Its APIs reached general availability in June 2026.

Or let Copilot choose
In Copilot Cowork, the system can match the model to the task automatically — Anthropic for visual work like PowerPoint and graphics, GPT for deeper research with citations. No manual selection required.

Where it shows up: the model selector in Copilot Chat, and inside Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Copilot Cowork and Copilot Studio. The Word, Excel and PowerPoint Agents run on Anthropic models specifically. Everything stays covered by Microsoft's Enterprise Data Protection and the Customer Copyright Commitment — Anthropic operates as a Microsoft subprocessor under the Microsoft Product Terms and Data Protection Addendum.

The part most vendors skip: Anthropic models are not available in every tenant. EU/EFTA and UK tenants, government clouds (GCC, GCC High, DoD) and sovereign clouds are excluded, and in some regions Anthropic is off by default until an admin opts in. Anthropic models are also currently excluded from EU Data Boundary and in-country processing commitments. Tech One checks your tenant's eligibility, residency setting and admin policy before you promise model choice to your users.

What's Actually New in Copilot This Year

Copilot in 2026 is a different product from the one most Philippine organizations evaluated. Here’s what changed — and what each change means for your rollout.

Copilot Cowork is GA worldwide

Microsoft's agentic system reached general availability in June 2026. You define the task; Cowork plans it, executes it across your apps and the web, and returns a completed deliverable — pausing for your approval on consequential steps. There's now a toggle in the Copilot app between Chat (answers) and Cowork (action).

→ Watch the meter: Cowork is usage-billed. We set spend limits before you switch it on.

Word, Excel & PowerPoint Agents

Chat-first agents that build a full document, workbook or deck from a plain-language brief — asking clarifying questions on audience, tone and format along the way. Agent Mode inside each app then makes precise, iterative edits. PowerPoint's Agent Mode grounds decks in your own files, meetings and emails via Work IQ.

→ These agents require Anthropic models to be enabled in your tenant.

Copilot Notebooks that build files

A Notebook can now turn your gathered notes into a Word document, an Excel spreadsheet or a PowerPoint deck — and draw a mind map of what's inside. You can reference SharePoint content, OneNote notebooks and Outlook emails as grounding sources, and share a notebook with a Microsoft 365 Group.

→ The messy-thinking space becomes the first draft. High-value for research-heavy teams.

Copilot Chat grew up in Outlook

Copilot Chat in Outlook expanded from reasoning over a single email thread to reasoning across the entire inbox, calendar and meetings — surfacing action items and managing the day. Word, Excel and PowerPoint Agents are available to Copilot Chat users too, using web data and referenced files.

→ Real capability now sits below the paid tier. That changes your seat-allocation strategy.

Agent 365 & Microsoft 365 E7

Agent 365 — the control plane for agents — became generally available in May 2026, alongside Microsoft 365 E7, the Frontier Suite bundling E5, Entra Suite, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent 365. Agent 365 covers discovery of shadow AI, agent identity and access, and agents operating with their own credentials.

→ You can't govern what you can't see. This is the answer to agent sprawl.

Purview caught up to agents

Data Loss Prevention can now restrict external email content from being processed in Copilot and Copilot Chat. DSPM for AI observability extended to cover agents and Agent 365, sensitivity labels carry through into Copilot-generated files, and AI-generated video and audio now carry watermarks.

→ The governance story is finally as mature as the product. Use it.
Also shipped this year: Researcher and Analyst reasoning agents generally available, with model choice on Researcher · Copilot Studio rebuilt at Build 2026 around Skills, Memory and a new agentic orchestrator, with multi-agent orchestration across Microsoft Fabric, the M365 Agents SDK and A2A now GA · Federated Connectors GA · Copilot in SharePoint that assembles the report for you · a redesigned Copilot app with a task-aware prompt line · and a growing plugin store spanning Adobe, Canva, Miro, monday.com, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and the full Dynamics 365 portfolio.

Core capabilities

What Copilot Does Across Your Microsoft 365 Apps

AI assistance built into the tools your teams open every morning — and, increasingly, AI that completes the work rather than starting it.

Word

Copilot in Word

Draft, rewrite and summarize documents — with Agent Mode making direct, iterative edits to the document itself, and Claude available as a model option.
Excel

Copilot in Excel

Analyze data, build and explain formulas and spot trends in plain language — now with Plan mode, Python support, saved formatting preferences and task-specific skills.
PowerPoint

Copilot in PowerPoint

Turn a prompt or document into a presentation-ready deck — with Agent Mode grounding slides in your own files and meetings, plus Brand Kit so output starts on-brand.
330px-Microsoft_Outlook_logo_2024–2025.svg.png

Copilot in Outlook

Copilot Chat now reasons across your whole inbox, calendar and meetings — not one thread — with an “Allow Actions” mode for triage, flagging and folder management.
Teams TOG

Copilot in Teams

Summarize meetings in real time, capture decisions and action items, and recap what you missed — plus call delegation and consecutive interpretation for multilingual teams.
Microsoft-Copilot.png

Copilot Cowork

Hand over a whole task, not a prompt. Cowork plans it, works across your apps and the web, and returns a finished deliverable — pausing for your approval at every consequential step.
Microsoft-Copilot.png

Copilot Notebooks

Gather files, SharePoint content, OneNote and Outlook emails in one place — then turn that thinking into a Word doc, an Excel sheet, a deck or a mind map.
Business-Intelligence-1-1.png

Researcher & Analyst

Two reasoning agents: Researcher runs deep, multi-step research across your work data and the web; Analyst thinks like a data scientist and runs Python on your raw data. Researcher offers model choice.
AI-1-2.png

Custom agents & Agent Store

Build agents in Agent Builder or Copilot Studio, submit them for admin review, and publish them tenant-wide under "Built by your org" in the Agent Store — governed end to end.
The market reality

AI Is Already in Your Workplace.
The Question Is Whether It's Governed.

Filipino organizations aren’t behind on AI access. They’re behind on deploying it safely, and on turning it into value that shows up on the bottom line.

86%

Filipino knowledge workers already using AI at work
Your people aren't waiting for permission.

83%

of Filipino AI users bring their own unsanctioned tools
That's data leaving your environment without governance.

~36%

average active usage of paid Copilot licenses
Most companies pay for AI they never adopt.
The risk isn’t that your teams won’t use AI. It’s that they’ll use the wrong AI — outside your security perimeter, outside the Data Privacy Act, and outside your control. Microsoft Copilot keeps AI inside your Microsoft 365 environment. Tech One makes sure it’s deployed right.

Where value is won or lost

Why Most Copilot Rollouts Underdeliver — and How We Fix It

The technology works. The rollout is where the ROI range between break-even and 4× return is decided. Three reasons investments stall:

01

No governance foundation

Copilot surfaces whatever a user already has access to. Without data-access hygiene first, you risk oversharing sensitive information.
02

No change management

Teams that don't know what to ask Copilot quietly stop using it. Generic demos don't transfer to Monday morning.
03

No internal AI champions

Adoption sticks when someone inside each business unit can model the workflows for their peers — and knows which model and which agent to reach for.

Choosing the right plan

Which Copilot Is Right for Your Organization?

Copilot stopped being an experiment you bolt on. As of 1 July 2026 it’s a permanent part of the Microsoft 365 lineup — and the in-app experience now sits firmly behind a licence.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat

Included with eligible Microsoft 365 plans
  • Copilot Chat with enterprise data protection
  • Chat in Outlook across your whole inbox and calendar
  • Word, Excel and PowerPoint Agents using web data and referenced files
  • No Work IQ grounding in your business data
  • In-app Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote now requires a licence

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Organizations & regulated industries
  • Everything in Copilot Chat, plus in-app Copilot everywhere
  • Work IQ grounding in your real files, emails and meetings
  • Model choice — OpenAI and Anthropic in one subscription
  • Researcher, Analyst, Facilitator and Copilot Notebooks
  • Access to Copilot Cowork (metered via Copilot Credits)
  • Enterprise-grade security, admin controls and compliance management
What's new on price and packaging. Two bundled SMB plans became permanent SKUs on 1 July 2026 — Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot and Business Premium with Copilot — for 1–300 seats on annual billing. The standalone Copilot Business add-on is also a permanent SKU, with promotional pricing running through the end of 2026. At the top end, Microsoft 365 E7 — the Frontier Suite — bundles E5, Entra Suite, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Agent 365 in one licence, with Agent 365 also available standalone. Published Microsoft list prices are in USD; your actual PH cost depends on your agreement, channel and term.
And one line item that isn't a seat. Copilot Cowork is billed by consumption, not per user. Cost scales with the model, context, tools and runtime each task uses — which means adoption can outrun budget if nobody's watching. Microsoft provides a Cost Management Dashboard in the admin centre for credit usage, budgets and spend controls at tenant, group and user level. Setting those limits is part of every Tech One deployment, not an afterthought.

Not sure which fits — or whether your current Microsoft 365 plan is eligible, or whether Anthropic models are even available in your tenant? That’s exactly what your readiness assessment establishes.

Use clear, specific prompts when interacting with Copilot to get accurate results. Integrate it into routine tasks like drafting emails, summarizing documents, or analyzing data. Regular use helps Copilot adapt to your workflow, enhancing productivity over time.

Is it true Microsoft Copilot now has both ChatGPT and Claude in it?

Effectively, yes. Microsoft 365 Copilot is multi-model: it runs on OpenAI’s GPT models and, since 2026, Anthropic’s Claude models — selectable from a model picker in Copilot Chat and available across Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Copilot Cowork and Copilot Studio. It’s one subscription, not two vendor contracts. Two caveats worth knowing: Anthropic models aren’t available in every region or cloud, and in some tenants an admin has to opt in before users see the choice. We confirm your tenant’s eligibility during the assessment.

Copilot Chat answers questions and drafts content turn by turn. Copilot Cowork completes work — it plans a multi-step task, executes it across your Microsoft 365 apps and the web, and returns a finished deliverable rather than a suggestion, pausing for your approval on consequential actions. It became generally available worldwide in June 2026. It requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence and is billed by usage through Copilot Credits, so spend controls matter.

It depends on where you need AI. Copilot Chat is included with eligible Microsoft 365 plans and now reasons across your whole Outlook inbox and calendar, and gives you Word, Excel and PowerPoint Agents using web data and referenced files. But in-app Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote — and Work IQ grounding in your own business data — requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. We help you decide who genuinely needs a paid seat and who doesn’t.

Work IQ is Copilot’s workplace intelligence layer. Rather than treating your content as isolated files, it builds a permission-aware semantic understanding of your emails, meetings, documents and working relationships — so Copilot and agents respond with the context of your business, not generic content. Its APIs reached general availability in June 2026. Practically, it’s the difference between a useful assistant and an expensive autocomplete.

Agents execute multi-step work rather than assisting with it — Microsoft’s prebuilt agents like Researcher and Analyst, or custom ones built in Agent Builder and Copilot Studio. The governance answer is Microsoft Agent 365, generally available since May 2026: a control plane to observe, govern and secure every agent in your estate, including agents operating with their own credentials and agents from partners. Agent submissions can also be routed through admin review before they reach the Agent Store.

Copilot operates inside your Microsoft 365 tenant, governed by your existing security controls and permissions, and only surfaces content a user can already access. Microsoft Purview now extends to AI specifically — DLP can restrict external email content from being processed in Copilot, DSPM for AI observability covers agents, and sensitivity labels carry through into Copilot-generated files. As an NPC Privacy Seal–certified partner, Tech One configures those controls and verifies your tenant’s data residency so your deployment aligns with the Data Privacy Act and regulator expectations such as the BSP.

As of July 2026, Copilot is a permanent part of the Microsoft 365 lineup — including bundled Business Standard with Copilot and Business Premium with Copilot plans for 1–300 seats, a standalone Copilot Business add-on, and Microsoft 365 E7 at the enterprise end. Published Microsoft list prices are in USD and your actual cost depends on your agreement, channel and term. Rather than guess, we review your current subscription and recommend the most cost-effective path during your assessment.

Timelines depend on your data-readiness and scale, which is exactly what the readiness assessment establishes. Tech One handles the full journey — governance and data-access review, licensing, deployment, Copilot Credit spend controls, agent governance, role-based enablement, AI-champion training, and ongoing adoption support.
